FLORIDA LOTTERY TERMINATES CONTRACTS OF THREE BROWARD COUNTY RETAILERS

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Lottery announced today that it has permanently ended the contracts of three Pompano Beach retailers. Based on evidence gathered during an investigation, which included personal interviews and a review of player transaction detail reports, the Lottery has concluded each retailer violated Florida law, Lottery rules and terms of the contract allowing each store to sell lottery products.

The Lottery has terminated sales at the following locations:

Akel Market, 502 NW 6th St, Pompano Beach
Georgia Market, 1404 NW 6th Avenue, Pompano Beach
Kwik Stop Food Store, 617 Hammondville Road, Pompano Beach

The Florida Lottery had previously suspended sales at each location based on evidence gathered during its on-going investigation. All Lottery equipment, tickets and other property has already been removed.

"The integrity of the Florida Lottery is essential. The taxpayers of this state demand it, and so do I," said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell. "We expect that each of our retailers abide by the code of integrity outlined in their contract with the Lottery. When they don't, our responsibility to our players and this organization is to end our relationship with that retailer."

This action is part of an internal investigation that began in August 2013 conducted by the Florida Lottery Division of Security and the Inspector General.
